Sacred Heart College (Autonomous), Thevara, affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, is among the top-ranking colleges in India. Established in 1944 by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), the college has been dedicated to nurturing a community of wisdom seekers who actively contribute to nation-building and the advancement of humanity.

In recognition of the invaluable contributions of teachers, Sacred Heart College introduced the Heartian Guru Shreshta Award in 2022 as part of its Platinum Jubilee celebrations. This prestigious award honours and encourages teachers who demonstrate exceptional innovation, unwavering dedication, and a profound commitment to the holistic welfare of society. It seeks to acknowledge educators who make a significant difference in the lives of their students, their immediate community, and national development.
The award is conferred annually to one outstanding college teacher and one exemplary school teacher (up to the Plus Two level) for their remarkable service to students and society. This initiative reflects the college’s deep appreciation for educators who inspire change and excellence in education.

The winner will be presented with a cash award, a memento and a citation on the solemn occasion of the Annual Heartian Fiesta – HEARTIFEST.

Eligibility
The award is instituted for the following categories:
- College teachers (Govt. / Aided / Self-Financing)
- School teachers up to higher Secondary level (State / CBSE / ICSE)
Only teachers working in educational institutions within the state of Kerala are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years of service.
Teachers employed in educational institutions under the CMI Sacred Heart Monastery, Thevara, and their close relatives are not ineligible to apply.
Previous Heartian ‘Guru Shreshta Awardees are not eligible to apply.
Applicants for the Heartian Guru Shreshta Award who applied within the past three years but were not selected need not submit a new application this year. Their previous application will be automatically considered. However, they must update their submission with any new achievements or additional information, if applicable.

- A scrutiny committee will review and shortlist the nominations.
- A panel of distinguished academicians will select the outstanding teacher and announce the recipient of the ‘Heartian Guru Shreshta’ Award for the year.
