The Department of Economics at Sacred Heart College, Thevara, has a rich history of academic
excellence, beginning in 1944. Since becoming a postgraduate centre in 1959 and a PhD research
centre in 1994, the department has awarded 59 doctoral degrees and continues to be a leader in
economic research and education. We are proud to organise this year’s National Economics
Conference.

About the Department of Economics
The Department of Economics of Sacred Heart College is one of the oldest Departments in the state providing economics education. The department started functioning in 1944. It is a composite department which combines the disciplines of History and Political science to offer complementary courses for Economics main. The Economics degree course started with the establishment of the college in 1944. It became a P.G. Department in 1959. In 1994, the department was elevated by M.G. University to the position of an approved Ph.D. Research Centre. Fifty nine Scholars were awarded Ph.D. through the Research Centre. M.Phil course was started in 2015.
